Supporting midwives around the globe is more important than ever, and we need your help!

Importance of Midwives

In a world where the advancement of technology is something to be proud off – digital marketing, mobile banking, robotics, and technological breakthroughs – it is a debilitating to know that there is still a high rate of mortality existing to some countries pertaining to child birth. Among the reasons for these are the lack of access to pre-natal and post-natal care for mothers, and the insufficient number of midwives to countries which need it the most. If there are even midwives in existent, they do often do not have enough experience and knowledge to follow through with a successful child delivery. This often results to now only to problems on the newborn child, but the mother as well. This problem could lead to something as fatal as death.

Sad to hear, but nonetheless true.

Midwife International, to address this problem, came up with a solution – to partner with establishes clinics and professional midwives to be able to create more midwives equipped in handling this type of problems competently. Such partnership created opportunities to midwives out there to gain more knowledge via a 3-year course program provided by several accredited schools. And this is just the start, because as we go through the process of ensuring that there will be more than enough midwives available during childbirth, we also wanted them to have access in modern facilities, and technology that would make their jobs easier. Everything is kept in proper condition. We only hire the best technicians from keeping the AC system in service to regular garage door repair in Las Vegas.

Building on the Foundation in Guatemala

Midwife International is currently working with Asociación Manos Abiertas (AMA), a locally run women’s health and midwifery clinic that is proud to provide sliding scale services to high-need populations near Antigua, Guatemala. AMA also houses a training and education program for new midwives, the first professional midwifery school in Guatemala. Our efforts with AMA will work to ensure that all women in the surrounding communities have access to the compassionate care that AMA offers, to develop programs that build professional skills for local midwives, and to help maintain a consistently clean and well-functioning care facility. Be a part of the solution. Be a part of the solution. Grow with Midwife International today.

“Woman is the first environment. In pregnancy our bodies sustain life. At the breast of women, the generations are nourished. From the bodies of women flows the relationship of those generations both to society and the natural world. In this way the earth is our mother, the old people said in this way we as women are earth.”

— Katsi Cook, Mohawk Midwife

The Need

Thriving mothers create thriving children, and ultimately, a thriving world. Yet nearly 800 women die every day from pregnancy and birth related causes, causing community trauma and adversely impacting the nutrition, education, and overall well-being of families. Further, ten million infants and children die each year before their fifth birthday; 99% of these deaths occur in developing nations. Infant mortality takes away society’s potential physical, social, and human capital.
